Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen in honor of Simone Leigh

The Anderson Ranch Arts Center went from hanging masterpieces to manufacturing PPE at the start of the pandemic.

But we’re told the center – chaired by Sue Hostetler, editor-in-chief of Art Basel magazine – has returned to its original mission of welcoming art students.

Next week, he will celebrate his 2021 international honored artist Simone Leigh – who will represent the United States at next year’s Venice Biennale – with a special appearance by feminist activist art group The Guerrilla Girls.

We learn that former MOCA director Helen Molesworth, Anne Pasternak of the Brooklyn Museum, art collectors Eleanor and Domenico De Sole, billionaire Jim Crown and his wife Paula, Sarah Arison, Jamie Tisch, Lisa and Jimmy Cohen, and Nightlife impresario Omar Hernandez are all expected. attend an event to welcome him.

Sessions will include lectures and discussions, studio artistic creation, dinner and a film.

The Ranch is hosting a series of events this summer, including a chat with photographer Tyler Mitchell, who photographed Beyoncé’s 2018 Vogue cover. Visual artist Derrick Adams, Whitney Museum curator Scott Rothkopf, Alexis Rockman and painter Jennifer Guidi will also be visiting during the season.

Aspen is heating up the art world with top galleries Lehmann Maupin, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, Almine Rech and Marianne Boesky Gallery, all hosting pop-ups in the mountain town of Colorado.

We’re told that a large crowd of chunky art wigs are also expected for this month’s Shara Hughes exhibit at the Aspen Art Museum.
