SmartCentres has unveiled plans for the new arts district in its SmartVMC development in Vaughan, Ontario. The first phase of ArtWalk will include three residential buildings located near public transportation, urban amenities and a nine-acre central park.

SmartVMC is a planned 100-acre, 20 million square foot downtown area, part of which is the ArtWalk neighborhood which is being developed by SmartLiving, the residential development arm of SmartCentres.

ArtWalk will be developed in four phases. This first phase will include 38- and 18-storey towers with a six-storey mixed-use residence including retail on the ground floor.

“With five world-class residential towers sold and two award-winning leased office towers, SmartVMC is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada,” said Mitchell Goldhar, Executive Chairman and CEO of SmartCentres REIT.

“This emerging city center has unprecedented transit connectivity, including a TTC subway station and an on-site York regional bus terminal.”

SmartVMC’s approach is to integrate art and culture into its planned community, so it’s no surprise that award-winning firm Hariri Pontarini Architects was chosen to lead both the architecture and interiors for this. phase.

Amenities at ArtWalk include several outdoor terraces with gardens, an outdoor cinema room, intimate lounge seating with fireplaces, as well as an outdoor dining area with barbecues. There will be an indoor / outdoor play area for the kids, as well as a large 2,500 square foot coworking space facing the backyard.
