Brock students to benefit from partnership with St. Catharines Art Gallery – The Brock Press

Brock’s Visual Arts Department, located on the Marilyn I. Walker Campus, has formed a partnership with 13th Street Winery and Gallery in St. Catharines. Brock arts students will now have access to new scholarship options through this long-planned collaboration.

The first exhibition to stem from the newly formed partnership is an exhibition to be shown at the 13th Street Gallery at 1776 Fourth Ave. A number of pieces created by Brock’s graduate visual arts students will be on display at the exhibition which will be April 2-30, with an artist welcome on Saturday April 16 from 2-5 p.m.

The 13th Street Winery and Gallery will also provide a new annual scholarship to a Brock visual arts student to support their artistic endeavors through this collaboration. The recipient of this grant will be announced at the artists‘ reception on April 16.

The gallery primarily showcases historical and contemporary Canadian art and houses works by some of the country’s best-known artists. The gallery also presents works by young, emerging artists in a variety of collaborative exhibitions.

Art has always been a key part of the winery’s goal of providing customers with a one-of-a-kind experience not seen at other wineries in the region, and as such the gallery initially opened. to its 13th Street location in 2019. The winery has been in business since 1998 and is one of Niagara’s award-winning producers of premium VQA wine.

This partnership comes at a time when many galleries in Ontario have begun to reopen after long periods of closure due to pandemic health and safety measures. With this reopening underway, having a space dedicated to showcasing work in a professional environment will offer Brock arts students a unique chance to broaden their reach and gain hands-on experience in the arts sector.

Faculty members and alumni of Brock’s visual arts will also be invited to exhibit their work at the gallery in May. These exhibitions are the first in a series of anticipated future exhibitions that will result from the collaboration.

The 13th Street Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment. Visit the 13th Street Gallery website for more information about the gallery and upcoming exhibitions.
