The town of Mount Gambier has welcomed Diana Warnes as Director of the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Center. Warnes joined the Council after his most recent position as Head of Curatorial Arts House (HOTA) on the Gold Coast and has spent the past four months working as a curatorial consultant for the Rockhampton Museum of Art .
Originally from South Australia, Warnes is thrilled to have landed a position at Mount Gambier and looks forward to working with the team to continue to organize programs and exhibitions for the enjoyment of the community.
Warnes advises, âI love working in regional galleries – no matter where you live, finding a cultural solution is essential and regional galleries are important for sharing diverse stories that engage local audiences.
âI grew up in South Australia and had decided after 20 years of absence that it was time to come home – the stars have aligned. I can’t wait to learn more about the history of the region, what people love to experience here and why visitors keep coming back.
âIt’s always a buzz to organize an exhibition that resonates with the community. I was delighted when the role became available at The Riddoch, a wonderful gallery in a large regional town.
City and Community Growth CEO Tim Coote welcomed Warnes to the board and said he looked forward to working together to raise the profile of the Riddoch Art Gallery as Australia’s largest regional gallery. from South.
Coote adds, âDiana’s previous experience in the arts industry will be invaluable in helping her oversee the operations of The Riddoch while continuing to collaboratively drive the vision, direction and strategy for the facility.
“Diana will play a vital role as the Council continues to work towards the creation of the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Trust.”
Warnes’ appointment follows the departure of Riddoch Art Gallery director Dr Melentie Pandilovski, who accepted a position as executive director of Experimenta in Melbourne, Victoria in August 2021.
