Krasl to host the American Society of Marine Artists North jury exhibit

The Krasl Art Center is preparing for a busy fall with two new exhibitions. The Krasl put together a list of programs for October and November, and released the following:

The Krasl Art Center (KAC) is hosting two new exhibitions just in time for fall! From October 9 to November 28, discover Regional exhibition with jury of the American Society of Marine Artists North in the main KAC galleries and the butterfly, the flying fish and the hurricane in artlaboratory. Both exhibitions are free and open to the public, and have multiple ways to interact with the works of art on display in upcoming programs.

The American Society of Marine Artists (The Company) and the KAC are pleased to present the Regional Jury Exhibition North 2021. The Society is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to recognize, encourage and promote marine art and maritime history. Our community’s rich artistic heritage and its connection to Lake Michigan make the KAC an ideal place to showcase the 2021 exhibit.

The works are selected by three jurors, all members of the Society. The exhibition presents 50 paintings / works on paper and 12 sculptures. All works of art exemplify excellence and mastery of both medium and subject and have been produced within the past five years.

In the art of KAClaboratory, explore a 20-foot-long accordion book telling the dramatic story of the journey of a forgotten beauty butterfly with underlying ailment. Reflecting a two-year collaboration between artists Andrea Peterson (LaPorte, IN) and Mary Uthuppurru (Bloomington, IN), every element of the book has been painstakingly hand-rendered, telling a story that is both process and tale of intense respect for the environment.

The sponsors of the Krasl Art Center 2021 exhibition are 98.3 The Coast, Starks Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, TCF Bank, Boulevard Inn and Bistro, Art FX, Kruggel Lawton CPA’s, The John Devries Insurance Agency, Silver Beach Pizza and Vail Rubber Works, Inc..

Celebrate both exhibitions on Friday, October 8 in a preview night filled with activities for everyone. At 5:30 p.m., artlab artists Andrea Peterson and Mary Uthuppurru present the butterfly, the flying fish and the hurricane and their collaborative process behind the work. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., enjoy the preview evening, with an interactive knotting project, cash bar and live music.
