Lineup unveiled for popular San Francisco music festival

Noise Pop’s 20th Street Block Party is back, and this time it has a new home in San Francisco’s Mission District.

The annual outdoor music festival, usually held between Harrison and Bryant streets, will now descend on Valencia Street between 18th and 21st streets, with San Francisco-based hardcore punk band Destroy Boys headlining this year. Since the band’s inception in 2015, vocalist Alexia Roditis, guitarist Vi Mayugba and drummer Narsai Malik have developed a cult following and made a fan of Billie Joe Armstrong with their raw, uninhibited noise that falls somewhere between the Linda Lindas and Minor Threat. Their set is not to be missed.

Excelsior district surf rockers Hot Flash Heat Wave, six-piece electronic R&B musicians the Seshen, local rapper Ricky Lake, singer-songwriter Marinero and Pitchfork-rented Chamber rock trio Sour Widows will round out the lineup. (This author recommends psychobilly-meets-post-punk band Juicebumps and ’80s-influenced jangle-pop group The Umbrellas.)

The event, which will take place on October 15 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., is now closer to Noise Pop’s new headquarters right across from Mission Playground, where they moved during the pandemic after 12 years in their Bryant Street space. A perk for nonprofits in the 826 Valencia and La Cocina neighborhood, the 20th Street Block Party is free and open to all ages, but like previous years, you’ll need to reserve a spot online to attend. VIP passes are also available for $69 and include access to exclusive outdoor viewing areas and a private lounge and bar, plus complimentary drinks and appetizers from local restaurants .

“With a continued focus on all things local since the event’s inception in 2013, the Fall Block Party will continue to showcase the small businesses, food, music, arts and rich culture that inspire not only the Mission District community, but also the residents of the Bay Area and far beyond,” reads the event description.
