Routley touts support for arts, culture and sports through grants

Funding for these organizations is well deserved, says Nanaimo-North Cowichan MP

NDP MP Doug Routley says government grants to local nonprofits will support arts, culture and sports organizations, enriching the lives of community members.

“These organizations work hard to promote creativity, teamwork and the value of coming together to celebrate community, and this funding is well deserved,” said Routley, MPP for Nanaimo-North Cowichan. “The future of arts, culture and sport is bright here in Cowichan.

Funding of more than $ 1.2 million for 45 organizations in the Cowichan Valley and the Nanaimo region is part of the $ 43 million and more distributed to nearly 1,400 organizations in the arts, culture and sport across British Columbia. businesses, musicians, art galleries and organizations that promote and celebrate diverse cultures from around the world. The sports component supports many local organizations for people of all ages and abilities.

Some of the organizations that receive funding in Nanaimo-North Cowichan include: Gabriola Arts Council, Cowichan Valley Minor Hockey Association, Ladysmith Festival of Lights, and Nanaimo and District Lacrosse Association.

The Community Gaming Grants program distributes up to $ 140 million in grants each year to nonprofits in British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of individuals and communities. These include sports, artistic, environmental, quality of life and health and safety organizations.
