Serj Tankian launches ‘Cool Gardens Poetry Suite’, a collection of cinematic compositions with poetry

Serj tankian has published “Cool Gardens Poetry Suite”, a rich collection of four elegant cinematographic works superimposed on an intimate recital of poetry performed by Tankien. The Suite is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Tankien has a host of additional musical releases planned for later this year. The next step is an assemblage of 25 cinematic compositions that run through the classic (“To enlighten”) and modern (“Violent violins”) soundscapes. The output will be called “Cinematic” and split into two collections released at the same time on August 6. Before the end of the year, listeners can also look forward to two film soundtrack releases from Tankien, for “Truth in Power” and “I am not alone”, both being documentaries that the composer produced and composed.

Singer, poet, songwriter, visual artist, film producer, activist and songwriter, Tankien has always created music as an outlet to express thoughts and feelings with a level of passion and awareness that few in today’s music world can match. An Armenian born in Lebanon and re-rooted in Los Angeles, Tankien was introduced to the fusion of cultures, ideas and ideals from an early age. The principles drawn from this integration and adaptation led to his understanding of the oneness of all things and has since evolved and transfigured into the music and art that he lives to create. As the singer and songwriter of SYSTEM OF A DOWN, Serj released five studio albums, winning a Grammy Award in 2006 for “BYOB” and selling over 40 million albums worldwide. Despite this success, Serj never became complacent with his art, always striving to open up new channels of sound and arrangements to articulate his artistic expressions. He released five albums of solo material, starting with the chart-topping hard rock album of 2007. “Elect the dead”. His second solo album, “Imperfect harmonies”, was released in 2010, followed by “Hara-kiri” in 2012. 2013 saw two separate releases of Serj, the first being the critically acclaimed film “Orca Symphony n ° 1”, released in June of the same year, followed by the very unique “Jazz-Iz Christ” a month later.

In recent years, his time in the recording studio has focused on creating sheet music and compositions for film and video game projects. More recently, Tankien composed the full musical score of an award-winning documentary “I am not alone” directed by Garin Hovannisian and the Live Nation Productions movie “Truth in Power”, who tells Serjhis own journey to the crossroads of music and activism. In 2017, Serj composed music for Emmy-appointed “Intention to destroy”, a captivating film directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Joe berlinger. In the same year, he created intense music for the Russian epic action film “Furious – The Legend of Kolovrat”, followed by his 2018 musical score for the award-winning film “Spitak”, directed by Alexandre kott. Additionally, Tankien composed the full musical score for independent films “1915” and “The last inhabitant”, an original composition for Ilya Naishuller‘s “Henri hardcore” and musical scores of video games for “Midnight star” and its sequel, “Renegade”, which were created by one of the main architects of the famous “Halo” games franchise.

Serjs resume also includes training for a record label, Serbian strike records (premiered in 2001), who has released albums by many critically acclaimed artists, including JUST IN MIDLAND, Bucket head and DEATH IN STEREO.

With a musician colleague Tom morello (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, AUDIO-SLAVE), Serj co-founded the non-profit association Axis of justice in 2002, which strives to bring together musicians, music fans and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice. He also immersed himself in the world of broadcasting as the co-host of the show. Axis of justice radio network, which can be heard via SiriusXM and KPFK in Los Angeles. During the last years, Tankien split his time between holding a microphone and a brush, having feverishly created over 60 works of art since 2013. His journey into the fine art world began with his “Musical paintings of disarming time”, which were exhibited at Project Gallery in Los Angeles. Since then he has had several exhibitions in galleries in the United States and New Zealand. In 2015, his works were exhibited at the opening of the New Museum Los Gatos in Northern California as part of a group exhibition that ran from May to September of the same year. SYSTEM OF A DOWN hasn’t released a full album since “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize” LPs, released in 2005.
