The cautious easing of the pandemic means people are traveling again and local galleries and artist shops are open to visitors. The Route des Arts d’Argenteuil and neighboring municipalities invites everyone to take a tour of the local roads and organize visits to the various workshops and galleries before August 8.
There are 17 participating artists and artisans. Until August 3, anyone wishing to visit a workshop or gallery must make an appointment. From August 4 to 8, no appointment is required.
At the Galerie et boutique at 76, rue Clyde in Lachute, the work of 27 artists and artisans from Argenteuil is on display and on sale in the Loco-Motion exhibition, which runs until August 8. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Public health measures in accordance with Quebec regulations on green levels are in effect. COVID-19 is one of the reasons visitors need to make an appointment to visit artists on certain dates. La Route des Arts also used the appointment requirement during the 2020 season. According to St-Placide president and artist Danielle Roy, approximately half of visits in 2020 were by appointment.
The Route des Arts and the Gallery also offer educational and artistic teaching programs.
“It’s good for the public and the children,” said Lise-Anne Bernatchez, project coordinator and secretary of the Route des Arts, and herself an artist.
Visitors to the 17 studios and the Galerie de Lachute can collect a keyword at each location and then enter to earn a $ 500 credit at the studio of their choice. Contest ends July 8.
La Route des Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the visibility of professional artists and artisans, encouraging public appreciation of art and encouraging cultural tourism in the southwestern Laurentians. In 2020, 57% of visitors to the Route des Arts came from its territory, but 34.7% of visitors came from Montreal, Laval, the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and other regions of Quebec.
